A former Chairman of the Ogun State chapter of the Nigeria Society of Engineers (NSE), Engr. (Dr.) Ahmed Apampa has cautioned against cutting corners in the construction industry in Nigeria.
Engr Apampa who was the Ogun State chairman of NSE in 2018, was recently turbanned as the Soludero of Egbaland Muslims and Fimogboye of Owuland Muslims respectively.
He spoke with homespropertyguide.com in Abeokuta during the occasion.
Speaking against the present ailing economy and temptation for many to circumvent professional standards in the construction sector, Apampa cautioned that cutting corners amounts to being penny wise pounds foolish.
His words: “Cutting corners by any builder is penny wise pounds foolish. This is because all that the person may gain will go into ruins and lives may also be lost.”
He added that, even on a spiritual note, the act of using substandard materials or acting unprofessionally is ungodly, stressing ‘’it is punishable in the sight of God, and I will implore building contractors and all other professionals in the built environment to be honest, and do their jobs with integrity and follow the rules of building construction. Escalating building materials cost or inflation should not be an excuse to cut corners.”
He charged homeowners to always patronise and consult professionals, because such a decision will reduce to the barest minimum, incidences of building collapse across the country.
“Quackery has no other name than quackery. It is not good because you don’t have enough by engaging in corner-cutting.
