Lagos State Safety Commission on Thursday visited the Lagos State University (LASU), Ojo main campus, to conduct a safety audit of the Babatunde Raji Fashola Senate Building.
The 6-man team that visited the university at the invitation ofnotes the management was welcome on arrival at the Vice-Chancellor’s Conference Room.
The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, represented by ofthe Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Administration, Prof. Adenike Boyo said the need to ensure the safety of the lives of users of the facility prompted the management to invite the commission.
He notes the need to be proactive rather than reactive to situations.
Director, Public Safety and Wellbeing Mr. Adeyinka Adebiyi, who led the team, congratulated the university for “valuing human lives”.
He said, “I congratulate you because you value the safety of your staff and students. You didn’t wait for an emergency to happen before calling us. In this part of the world, the reverse is the case.
“This safety reports audit will help us identify hazards and nip potential accidents in the building in the bud,” he said.
After the reception, the team, led by the PAR, VCO, Dr. Lateef Sekoni, toured the facility assessing every nook and crannies and making notes for subsequent reports to the VC.
Besides, the team toured other facilities for their safety assessment levels.
