Ogun State Government is set to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with a built professional body, Building Collapse Prevention Guild (BCPG), Ogun State Chapter on Tuesday, March 1, 2022, at the Ministry’s Conference room, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.
Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Tpl. Olatunji Odunlami disclosed this while fielding questions from correspondents in Abeokuta.
He explained that the move would curb the menace of building collapse and non-compliance to building regulations leading to construction defects.
Odunlami revealed that the Guild would assist the present administration in the monitoring and inspection of building constructions in partnership with the Ogun State Building Production Management Authority (OGBPMA).
The Commissioner affirmed that the State government is taking a proactive step towards forestalling loss of lives and property arising from building collapse, hence the need for concerted efforts of organised professional bodies to ensure a more resilient and safer environment in the State.
He said BCPG comprises relevant registered professionals in the built sector such as Engineers, Architects, Builders, Land Surveyors, Estate Valuers, Town Planners, and Quantity Surveyors, pointing out that the Guild’s objectives include, working in partnership with government and her agencies at all levels, monitoring and ensuring that construction activities were properly carried out.
